27.02.2025 - What's new?
Important new book content included, specifically focusing on bio-based polymers and other biomaterials:
- “Applications of Biomass-Derived Materials for Bioproducts and Bioenergy” (Chejne Janna / Garcia-Perez / Noriega):
Provides a unique overview of usage of biomass, biomaterials, and bioproducts, including biopolymers. Included are materials, processes, usage as an energy source, and, in particular, applications. This book fills an important gap in informing engineers and scientists in how to develop bio-refinery concepts and bio-based products (including bio-based polymers) in industry, and to integrate pathways to convert biomass into energy and useful products. - “Processing of Biodegradable Polymers” (Kenig / Ophir):
Biodegradable polymers (BDPs) based on renewable sources possess attractive attributes compared to fossil derived polymers (FDPs), including reduced environmental impact. However, BDPs tend to be sensitive to conventional processing conditions due to their composition, which is tuned to bio-degradation. This book shows how to process BDPs effectively, in particular to minimize the in-process degradation and enhance the final processed properties. Special additives, fillers, and blends can be utilized. The characteristics in extrusion, injection molding, thermoforming, blow molding, and 3D printing are considered, as well as the processing of recycled BDPs.
