Peter Zolling, 1955 in Berlin geboren, studierte Geschichte, Soziologie und Allgemeine Staatslehre in Hamburg und London. Der promovierte Historiker war Hörfunk- und Fernsehjournalist, dann Verantwortlicher Redakteur für Zeitgeschichte beim Spiegel. Heute lebt er als Buchautor, Publizist und Kommunikationsberater in Hamburg. Bei Hanser erschien bereits seine erfolgreiche und hochgelobte Deutsche Geschichte von 1871 bis zur Gegenwart (2005) und Das Grundgesetz (2009).
